Windows
98/ME Network card setup
Note: Aviation laptop
users should not follow these instructions as
their laptops are specifically setup by the
Aviation department.
If the network card is of a newer model, Windows
98/ME should automatically detect it and install
the proper drivers, possible prompting for the
driver disk included with the network card. If
the network card is not automatically detected
by Windows 98/ME, then the setup procedure
provided in the network card's documentation
must be followed.
Once the network card is properly installed,
click on start->settings->control panel->network

Within the network settings, click on Client
for Netware Networks then click remove,
click on Client for Microsoft Networks then click remove, click on NetBEUI then
click on remove, then click on IPX/SPX then click remove.
Click on add->protocol then click on Microsoft in the left window and TCP/IP in the right windows then click OK.
The only settings that should now be in the
network settings window ware
<Network card driver>
TCP/IP protocol

Click on TCP/IP and click on properties.
Verify the following information.
IP Address: Obtain an IP address automatically

WINS Configuration: Use DHCP for WINS Resolution

Gateway: All boxes should be empty

DNS Configuration: Disable DNS

The settings for Bindings, Advanced, and NetBIOS
should be left at their default settings.
